Joendry Vargas hit the 1st pitch of the game last night for a home run to get the Tower Buzzers off to a GREAT start. Vargas added a bases-loaded double later in the game as well.

Super talented young man, who loves to compete, and he also loves to swing at the 1st pitch. When he steps into the batter's box, he does so ready to hit.

Vargas is hitting .279, with an OPS of .879 & he has hits in 6 games in a row. #dodgers #dodgersprospects
Joendry Vargas Went ALL Ricky Henderson on the Giants!
Nico Perez hit a GRAND SLAM last night as part of the 9-run 9th inning that flipped a 5-run deficit into a 4-run win. What a cool moment, and a GREAT reward for Perez, who is having a GREAT start to this point.

Perez is hitting .333, with an OPS of .914, OBP of .431, has 11 stolen bases, has hits in 9 of his last 10 games, and is 7 for his last 17. DAYUM...Atta Baby Nico! #dodgers #dodgersprospects
Nico Perez Did WHUT? Grand Slam to Cap 9-Run 9th!
Mike Sirota hit his 2nd HR of 2026, and it was a SHOT to left-center. A line drive that had enough elevation to then turn into a home run. Sirota had 2 hits, and that raised his average to .300 on the year, with an OPS of .990, so he's off to a good start.

Sirota has hits in 11 of his last 12 games, and he's 5 for his last 10. #dodgers #dodgersprospects
Mike Sirota...Home Run #2...That Was a SHOT!
I LOVE the hit tool of Charles Davalan. From the mechanical aspects of it, to the approach, to the physical ability to turn the barrel accurately, it's all ++ stuff.

In the Nevin post, we mentioned that "COMPLETE" hitters hunt pitches to "turn on" in + counts, but then have a "middle" approach in "neutral" or "pitchers" counts. And, that, hitters that do this can hit home runs, and then, also, gather a LOT of hits.

Well, Charles Davalan, and his 2 hits are EXHIBIT A!

How about the hard hit ball to right field in a 2-1 (hitters) count, then the dumper to left center in the 0-1 pitchers count.

A couple MORE things to unpack here!

Hitters have to time inside pitches earlier, so a fastball, for example, that is thrown at 92, when it's inside, a hitter actually has to time about 94-95 to be on time. On the Vice Versa, if that same 92 is on the outer half, the hitter has to time about 89-90 to be on time. That's why location, in and of itself, drastically affects hitters' timing, and why late movement, like the cutter of Mariano Rivera, is just almost humanly impossible to beat.

It's SO MUCH better than just STRAIGHT VELO!

So, I say that to say, on the 2nd hit, the pitch is inside, and we mentioned, when you're thinking middle, if you're a touch late, you hit the ball to the opposite field gap. And, voila...That's where he dumped that ball. So, while it was good fortune, in the sense that it wasn't clobbered, it was anything but lucky in the sense that it was a result of an approach that is centered on using the BIGGEST part of the field.

I gravitate to hitters that understand these concepts and can execute them. They become GREAT HITTERS, who can ALSO hit home runs. #dodgers #dodgersprospects
Charles Davalan Can STUROKE!
Josue DePaula had a hit last night, and then ALSO drew FOUR walks. And, the one hit was hit straight up the middle, so last night was just about THE MOST Josue DePaula night of ALL TIME.

Dude gathers a hit, and he walks, and that's what he does, and, like Kendall George, he appears to be perfectly fine with being the BEST version of that.

This Tulsa offense is STUPID GOOD! They lead the Texas League in OBP (.374) & runs scored (115). Their top 4 hitters are all hitting .299 or above, Dang You Zyhir Hope (.299), and ALL have an OPS of .814 or above. That's almost HALF your lineup!

At one point last night, they had scored 18 unanswered runs against Frisco in this series. #dodgers #dodgersprospects
Josue DePaula Being....Well, Josue DePaula
Patrick Copen...AGAIN!
6.1IP | 1H | 0R | 9Ks | 3BB

The 9 Ks is a high for Copen at the AA level, and the ONLY hit he gave up was to the 3rd hitter of the game. He also struck out 8 of the 9 hitters in the Frisco lineup, and just didn't give up much hard contact at all.

He got the W to move to 3-0, and ironically, it's his 2nd outing this year that he's gone EXACTLY 6.1 innings, given up EXACTLY 1 hit, and struck out EXACTLY 9 hitters. He did that two starts ago on April 10th as well at Springfield, against a really good Cardinals lineup.

ERA is down to 1.23, average against is .149, WHIP is 1.05, and he has 31 Ks in 22 innings. AS A STARTER!

Cutter looked great, especially to lefties to get underneath their bats. The fastball was explosive, as evidenced by the fact that it recorded his 1st 4 Ks., His breaking ball had GREAT depth, and he also landed a change for strike 1, too.

This is what you call stuff meeting execution, and when that happens, it's ADIOS! Atta Baby Cope, Keep Ringin' that Cowbell, my man!#dodgers #dodgersprospects
