Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes were home again at Loan Mart field and won a crazy 15-14 game Friday evening in front of 2251 fans that were treated to a very entertaining ballgame.
Offense was on the offense:
Jake Vogel had a huge night at the plate going 4-6 on the night including an RBI double in the 3rd. He has hits in his last 4 games and is hitting .333 in July with an on-base % of .483. Austin Gauthier had a pair of hits, an RBI as well, and reached base 4 times as well, so the 1 and 2 hitters in the lineup last night were on base a combined 8 times, which is a large reason why Rancho scored 15 runs. Gauthier has hits in 6 games in a row, hitting .333 in July the same as Vogel and he also has a similar on-base percentage this month as Vogel at .467.
Luis Diaz went 3 for 6 and had 5 RBIs which was the game-high for either team, including the game-winning walk-off that scored Gauthier to give the Quakes the win. Diaz has been sizzling hot at the plate as he is hitting .420 with an OPS of 1.023 in July of 1.023. He also has 2 home runs and 14 RBIs this month, has scored 13 runs and has 28 total bases. Damon Keith had 4 RBI on the night and is hitting straight up .300 on the year with an OPS of .946. Everyone in the lineup for the Quakes had at least 1 hit, and all but 1 player had at least 1 RBI, so it was a great night offensively.
Pitching:
On the pitching side, River Ryan gave the Quakes a really good start going 4 innings and giving up just 1 earned run. Ryan is a 2021 draft pick who the Dodgers traded for in the Matt Beaty trade with the Padres. On the book end, Martin Santana got the win by throwing a scoreless 9th before the Quakes scored to win the game in the bottom of the 9th on the Luis Diaz walk-off. 4 other pitchers threw in the game and all gave up at least 1 run.
The Quakes moved to 45-40 with the win and are next in action Saturday night at Loan Mart field against Fresno again at 6:30 Pacific Time with no starting pitcher identified yet.
Great Lakes
The Loons game was rained out Friday evening, and they will now have a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game will start at 6:00 Eastern with the 2nd game to follow after that. Nick Nastrini was the listed starter for Friday evening, so I would assume he will get one of the starts on Saturday, and Lefty Lael Lockhart Jr. will get the other.
Tulsa Drillers
The Drillers won an exciting 6-4 contest Friday evening at Hammons Field in Springfield.
Ryan Ward and Johnny DeLuca continued hot at the plate as each of them had 2 hits. Ward hit his 21st home run of the year which ties him with DeLuca and Michael Busch for the most of any player in the organization at any level. He has multiple hits in 2 games in a row and has 6 multi-hit games this month. He’s hitting .333 in July with an OPS of 1.088. Carson Taylor also had a big 2 RBI base hit in the 1st inning to cap off a 3-run inning and give the Driller a lead they would never give back.
Clayton Beeter got the start on the mound, and, although he gave up a base hit against a shift to score 2 runs, he was good. His secondary stuff really jumped and his fastball was very good as well. He is still trying to get back to full pitch counts, so it’s a long process, but he is getting closer and closer.
Alec Gamboa had a good outing and actually got the win to move to 8-0 on the season. The rock-solid lefty out of Madera, California went 3.2 innings and gave up 2 runs, and had 4 strikeouts. Jose Hernandez also tossed a scoreless 1.1 innings and Guillermo Zuniga got the save for Tulsa and he is now 9 for 9 in save opportunities.
Tulsa is in action again Saturday night in Springfield at 6:15 Central time with the starter not listed as of yet.
OKC Dodgers
The AAA Dodgers lost a 7-3 game Friday night in Tacoma to the AAA affiliates of the Seattle Mariners. Sam Gaviglio took the loss and he is now 6-4 on the year. Jose Adames threw 1.1 scoreless innings, Daniel Zamora was scoreless in his 1 inning of work, and Justin Bruihl finished out the 8th by giving up a run on a couple of hits.
Drew Avans got on to start the OKC game, then got over, before Jason Martin blasted his 19th home run of the year, so the game got off to a good start for the Dodgers. Martin has 12 home runs since the beginning of June & his OPS is approaching 1.000. Tonight’s homer was 94 mph off the bat & traveled 369 very happy feet. Jacob Amaya and Omar Estevez each had 2 hits on the night, and Ryan Noda and Drew Avans each added a hit as well to round out the offense.
OKC is next in action this evening at 7:05 Pacific with Andre Jackson taking the mound for the Dodgers.
