Not gonna sugarcoat this one, it was one of the worst nights of baseball of the year, across the board, as all 4 affiliates lost. But, as always, there were some good performances and exciting moments that we will share in this latest edition.
OKC Dodgers
The first thing that stuck out to me about the OKC game was the crowd. 2 nights ago, the AAA affiliate had Dustin May on the mound and Edwin Rios at 3rd and got out drawn by both Tulsa and Great Lakes. Tonight was a different story though as 8288 fans packed into the beautiful Bricktown ballpark. The Dodgers were only able to muster 2 hits and lost 6-0 to the cockiest team on the planet, the AAA Astros.
I want to start the OKC section with congrats to James Outman. If you wanna peek at what is headed the Dodger’s way, here is a 1:00 highlight clip of all of the best Defensive plays from Outman from the last year.
Hanser Robles had a quick 1-2-3 inning for OKC and you can see every pitch in the video.
Much better outing for Pedro Baez last night in OKC. Here is every pitch!
AA Tulsa Drillers
The Drillers found themselves in a 6-0 hole by the 4th inning and could never recover en route to a 7-2 loss to the Arkansas Travelers in front of 6588 fans at beautiful OneOk field in Downtown T-Town!
Watching 6’8 Australian, Cameron Gibbens, put up a zero tonight was easily the highlight of tonight’s action for me. Gibbens has fought injury all year and, as you’ll see in the video, released a lot of frustration with his good work tonight. Well done Cameron!
Gus Varland was on point tonight for Tulsa with the 98 mph fastball and the good slider. Check it out for yourself.
Devin Mann blasted his 10th home run of the season and continues to swing a hot bat in July hitting .311 with an OPS of .878 this month.
High A Great Lakes
Great Lakes rallied in the 9th but came up a run short and lost 2-1 to the Lansing Lugnuts in front of a sold-out crowd of 5335 at Dow Diamond.
Lael Lockhart Jr. put on a show in front of a sold-out crowd at Dow Diamond giving up no runs in 4.1 innings, striking out 5, and walking just 1. Lockhart Jr. has had a great year with an ERA of 3.34 and has 80 k’s in 2022 to just 20 walks. That was fun to watch.
6’7 Carlos Duran struck out 9 in 3.2 innings & has 33 k’s on the year to just 9 walks. He gave up 2 runs which marked just the 2nd time this year he has given up more than 1. His ERA on the year is 2.70, his WHIP is just 0.95. Watch the changeup, slider, curveball mix.
Jorbit Vivas had 2 hits in the Loon’s 2-1 loss tonight. Vivas has hits in 4 of his last 5 games and has 6 total bases and 4 runs scored during that stretch.
Low A Rancho Cucamonga
Similar to the Loons, the Quakes made a run at things in San Jose but came up just short losing 3-2 to the Sharks, the AAA affiliates of the Giants.
Luis Rodriguez hit one of the most impressive home runs I’ve seen all year, and I watch a lot of baseball games. Check it out for yourself!
Yunior Garcia had another multi-hit game for the Quakes. That marks his 7th multi-hit game of this month and he has more than 2 hits in a game on 3 different occasions.
Get familiar with Peter Heubeck. I’ve had a chance to talk to him & he has all the “it” factors. He also has explosive stuff & one of the best breaking balls in the entire org. He went scoreless tonight for the Quakes and hasn’t allowed a run in the entire month of July.
Check out the slider from Christian Suarez! Suarez went 2 scoreless tonight for the Quakes!
