James Outman and Jason Martin each had home runs for OKC, Drew Avans extended his on-base streak to 42 games, the Drillers came back from a 7 run deficit, they used a position player to close the game, River Ryan debuted with the Loons, 2022 Draft pick, Sean McLain made a splash, and Yuniel Garcia and Kenneth Betancourt raked for the Quakes. OKC Dodgers
OKC pounded out 14 hits last night at Salt Lake en route to scoring 13 runs and shutting out the Bees. Daniel Zamora started and threw the first 2 innings, followed by Beau Burrows, Jose Adames, Marshall Kasowski, Hansel Robles, Yadier Alvarez, and Carson Fulmer. The Dodgers staff recorded 13 strikeouts on the evening in the shutout.
Drew Avans walked in his 1st at-bat with OKC and extended his on-base streak to 42 games!
Michael Busch hit his 20th double of the year to score Drew Avans, then Jason Martin hit his 23rd home run of 2022. Martin is tied for 2nd in the PCL in home runs (23) and RBIs.
James Outman hit his 22nd home run of the year between Tulsa and OKC and it came off the bat 107.5 and traveled 441 very happy feet!
Jason Martin hit 2 home runs on the night and has 24 on the year which is 2nd most in the PCL. The first home run was hit 108 off the bat and traveled 445 very happy feet, while the 2nd was hit 106 and traveled 442.
AA Tulsa Drillers
The Tulsa Drillers had one of the best comebacks of the year last night as they found themselves down 7 runs after the 2nd inning, but scored 8 unanswered runs of their own in the next 3 innings to beat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the AA affiliates of the Royals, 12-9.
After getting down 7-0, the Drillers scored 5 in the top of 3. Buddy Reed hit his 2nd homer since joining the club, Kody Hoese singled, Brandon Lewis hit his 11th double for his 36th & 37th RBIs, then Leonel Valera finished it off with an RBI double of his own. Andy Pages hit his 19th home run of 2022 and now has 59 RBIs. This was his 3rd homer in his last 5 games, he has 5 RBIs in his last 2 games, 6 total in August, and 15 total bases this month. He can carry an offense when he’s going well.
Brandon Lewis hit a grand slam for Tulsa to put them in the lead 12-9. The home run was #14 of the year for the LA native, and it was hit 108 mph and traveled 408 very happy feet. Lewis had 6 RBIs last night and is 5 for his last 13 with a homer, 8 RBIs, and 10 total bases.
Leonel Valera had 3 hits for the Drillers and is 9 for 18 with a home run, 4 doubles, a triple, 8 runs scored, and 18 total bases so far in August! I’d say he’s hot to start this month!
Baseball is Awesome Alert: Position player for Tulsa, Abiatal Avelino, got a 2 inning save. It was his 2nd night in a row to pitch and 4th performance of the year on the mound, and he hit as high as 87 and as low as 56 on the last pitch of the game! Well Done Abiatal!
High A Great Lakes
The Loons scored 2 early runs and 5 runs in the first 4 innings, but couldn’t hold on and lost a tough 6-5 decision last night at Lake County against the Captains who are the High affiliates of the Cleveland Guardians.
Eddys Leonard hit his 11th home run of 2022 and his 2nd in the last 3 games. He has hits in 5 games in a row and that’s on the heels of hitting .316 in July with an OPS of .846.
Antonio Knowles had another scoreless outing tonight for Great Lakes which is his third in a row. His average against in July was just .207 in July and is .186 so far in August. Since the start of July has 20 strikeouts and just 2 walks! Wow!
River Ryan made his debut with Great Lakes last night and went 4 innings, struck out 8, and walked just 1. I’d say he made a splash!
Harold Restituyo had 2 hits for the Loons and moved his average up to .323 on the year. Restituyo has hits in all 3 games this month and is 6 for 11 in August with 4 runs scored and 7 total bases.
Low A Rancho Cucamonga
Rancho Cucamonga got big nights from Yunior Garcia and Kenneth Betancourt and the 3125 fans at Loan Mart Field were also treated to 2022 Draft Pick, Sean McLain’s 1st home run in the system. But, despite those efforts, it wasn’t enough as the Quakes lost 8-5 to Inland Empire, the Angels Low A affiliate.
2022 Draft Pick, Sean McLain, hit his 1st home run with the club. McLain is an infielder out of Arizona State, and originally from Tustin, California who hit .333 for the Sun Devils as a Senior with 3 home runs and 34 RBIs.
Yunior Garcia is having quite the month for the Quakes. He’s hitting .583 so far in August, his slug % is 1.167, his on-base % is .593, and his OPS is 1.750. Last night he had 3 hits, including his 10th home run, and his 25th double. He now has 63 RBIs on the year.
Kenneth Betancourt had 3 hits last night for the quakes, including his 18th double. Betancourt is a 22-year-old out of Venezuela who is hitting .278 with an On-base % of .353 on the year.
Reinaldo De Paula has yet to give up a run this month for the Quakes and has gone scoreless in 3 of his last 4 outings, and has 7 K’s during that stretch to just 1 walk. Last night he threw 2 scoreless innings and struck out 3. Here’s a good look at his stuff.
