OKC got back in the win column, Knack got back on the mound, Cartaya went deep, and the Quakes continue to pile up the runs. It was a good night down on the farm and we’ve got it covered.
AAA OKC Dodgers
OKC scored 5 times in the bottom of the 8th inning to overtake Round Rock, the AAA affiliates of the Rangers, 9-5 Saturday evening at Bricktown Ballpark in front of a great crowd of 8988 very entertained fans.
Drew Avans extended his on-base streak to 49 games with a base hit in his 2nd at-bat. Avans leads OKC in batting average (.289), on-base % (.387) and triples (10). He’s a really good player!
Ryan Noda had a hit, was on base 3 times, and had 2 RBIs. Noda is 2nd in the PCL in walks, and is also 2nd on the team in stolen bases (13), but, then on the power side, he is 2nd on the team and 7th in the PCL in home runs (19). He is just a great offensive player!
Jason Martin had 2 hits for OKC and was on base 3 times. Martin leads the team in slug % (.575), OPS (.955), RBIs (82), and is 1 point off the team lead in average at .288.
Edwin Rios had a hit and 2 RBIs for OKC and is hitting .295 with an OPS of .759 in his rehab in AAA.
Marshall Kasowski threw a clean inning for OKC and has his ERA on the year down to 2.09. Kasowski has thrown 4 scoreless outings in a row, 9 out of his last 10 and he has only allowed 2 runs since the beginning of July. He’s having a great year!
Jake Reed threw a clean inning for OKC. Reed has yet to allow an earned run with OKC in his 4 outings and also has yet to walk a batter.
AA Tulsa Drillers
The Drillers got off to a quick start with runs in each of the first two innings on 2 solo home runs, but didn’t score after the 2nd inning and lost 6-2 to Midland the AA affiliates of the Oakland A’s at beautiful OneOk field in front of 5593 fans.
Leonel Valera hit home run #6 of the year and it was a blast! Valera is hitting .293 with an OPS of .814 since being promoted to AA.
Ismael Alcantara hit a triple on Friday night to show his speed, and he hit a home run last night to show his power. Here is a direct quote from a former teammate of Alcantara’s: “He is the real deal”.
LHP out of Hofstra, John Rooney, had a good outing for Tulsa going 3.1 innings and giving up just 1 run. He had 5 K’s on the night to just 1 walk and his strikeout to walk ratio is right at 3 to 1 on the year.
High A Great Lakes
Great Lakes scored 2 runs in an inning on 3 different occasions and blanked Peoria, the High A affiliates of the Cardinals 6-0 at Dow Diamond in front of 3794 happy fans.
6’6 RHP Kendall Williams had a great outing last night for the Loons. He went 5, gave up none, and struck out 3. Williams has a big frame and features a split finger that is a great pitch to pair with his slider and good fastball. work!
Jorbit Vivas had 3 hits for the Loons which is his 2nd 3-hit game of the month and 6th multi-hit game in August.
Antonio Knowles had another scoreless outing for the Loons which marks his 3rd out of his last 4. His average against this month is .158, his WHIP is 0.80 and in the last 2 months, he has 23 K’s to just 3 walks.
Aldry Acosta has been Mr. Automatic for the Loons. Since returning off the IL on July 14 he has yet to give up a run, including tonight’s 1 inning. He has been a master at inducing weak contact.
Left-hander out of Syracuse, Jeff Belge had a clean outing for Great Lakes in his 1 inning and had a strikeout and no walks. His strikeout-to-walk ratio since the beginning of July is right at 3 to 1.
Julian Smith had a scoreless outing for the Loons and struck out 2 and walked none. The slider was on point tonight for the 25-year-old left-hander out of Catawba Valley Community College.
Single A Rancho Cucamonga
Rancho scored 4 in the 5th to take a 7-2, then, much like Friday night, held on down the stretch to win 7-4 over Lake Elsinore, the Single A affiliates of the Padres.
Jake Vogel got the scoring started for Rancho with a 2 RBI double. Vogel has hits in 3 games in a row, 7 of his last 8, and 9 of his last 11. His on-base % this month is .341.
Kyle Froemke had a 2-hit night for the 2nd night in a row, has hits in 3 in a row, and is 5 for his last 9. He has 3 multi-hit games out of the 5 that he’s played this month and is hitting .417 in August with an OPS of .962.
Sean McLain had 2 hits for the Quakes and has multi-hit games in 2 of his last 4 with a double, 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and 6 total bases.
19-year-old catcher out of Venezuela, Yeiner Fernandez had 2 more hits last night, has hits in 4 games in a row, and has a hit in all but 1 game this month. He is hitting .287 on the year with an OPS of .799.
Gabe Emmett had a clean inning for the Quakes. Check out the arm side run on his fastball! Emmett is a 21-year-old that was drafted in the 19th round of the 2021 draft out of Folsom Lake Community College.
LHP Christian Suarez is really turning a corner. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in 5 outings in a row, and if he keeps throwing like he did tonight, that streak has no end in sight. He had 4 K’s in 1.2 innings, and, most importantly, no walks.
Check out the breaking ball from 23-year-old Reinaldo DePaula. DePaula has his ERA down to 3.33 and his WHIP down to 1.19. He has not allowed a run in 5 outings in a row and 6 of his last 7. His batting average against this month is just .105.
