AA OKC Dodgers
OKC had a doubleheader yesterday with the Sugarland Space Cowboys, the AAA affiliates of the Astros. OKC won the first game 4-1 on the back of Gavin Stones’ AAA debut and Miguel Vargas’s 3 doubles. There wasn’t much to talk about in the 2nd game as Sugarland scored 2 in the bottom of the first and went on to score 3 touchdowns and win 21-4.
Gavin Stone threw 4 innings in his AAA debut and had 4 K’s & gave up no hits and no runs. The Dodgers are careful with their pitchers, which is certainly why his day ended after 63 pitches.
Hunter Feduccia hit home run #12 on the year and it came off the bat 108 and traveled 372 very happy feet. Feduccia has hits in 4 games in a row and 6 of his last 7 with a home run, 4 RBIs, 3 doubles, and 12 total bases during that span.
Brusdar Graterol faced just 3 hitters last night and got 2 of them out. Graterol threw 14 pitches: 2 cutters at 93-94, 9 sinkers that sat 98-99, and 3 sliders that were 91-92.
Hansel Robles got the last out of Brusdar Graterol’s inning and threw 5 pitches. His 4 seam hit 97 and his slider hit 91.
Miguel Vargas had 3 doubles for OKC to extend his hit streak to 5 games. Vargas has hits in all but 2 games in this month of August and is hitting .287 with an OPS of .862 on the year in AAA.
Mark Washington made quick work of Sugar Land in his 1 scoreless inning. Washington has been one of the most reliable pitchers in the system for 2 years & has had long stretches where he was the most dominant. He has big stuff, lots of confidence & a great future.
AA Tulsa Drillers
History was made in the Driller’s game, but it’s not news that you want to hear if you’re a Dodgers fan. The AA Drillers got no-hit by Daniel Gossett of the Wichita Wind Surge the AA affiliates of the Twins. The Drillers lost 3-0.
Congratulations to Missouri Alum, Jacob Cantleberry on a well, well-deserved promotion to Tulsa. In July his ERA was 1.23, his avg. against was .125 and his WHIP was 1.00. In August his ERA is 1.69, his avg. against is .118, and his WHIP is 0.56.
Landon Knack created good momentum with his start during a period of the season where he’s had some stops & starts due to injury. He gave up an early home run, but then settled in & blanked Wichita in his last 3 innings.Â
Adolfo Ramirez did his job for Tulsa in his 3rd AA outing since being recently promoted. Ramirez went 4, gave up just 1 run on 2 hits, and had 7 strikeouts and just 1 walk. Ramirez is a 23-year-old out of Mexico whose ERA is 3.31 on the year and his WHIP is just 1.14.
High A Great Lakes
The Loons continued to play great offense and racked up 13 hits and 12 runs in the Michigan State Capitol Friday Night and beat the Lansing Lugnuts, the High A Affiliates of the A’s 12-7.
Ben Harris threw another scoreless inning for the Loons which is his 12th scoreless performance in a row. 12! He’s allowed a grand total of 1 run since the beginning of July and during that time he has 27 K’s to just 5 walks and has given up just 3 hits. Wow!
Jeff Belge had a scoreless performance for the Loons going 1.2 innings and registered strikeouts for all 5 outs he recorded. He has 23 strikeouts in his last 12.2 innings.
Imanol Vargas has been a machine at the plate since July of last year. He had 4 hits for the Loons last night, which makes his 6th multi-hit game of the month. He continues to lead the Midwest League in on-base percentage (.431), and his OPS for the year is .922.
Jose Ramos had 2 hits including his 17th double, and 4 RBIs for the Loons. Ramos has multiple hits in 2 of his last 3 games and has 2 doubles, a triple, and 7 RBIs in those 3 games. He’s one of those kinds of talents that can carry an offense when he gets hot.
Congrats are in order as well for Joan Valdez who got promoted to High A Great Lakes and made his debut last night. Make yourself familiar with his name because his changeup has quickly become a weapon and he always brings the big fastball, an intimidating leg kick, confidence, and style. As his change-up continues to get better, he’s gonna start turning heads and you heard it here first.
Single A Rancho Cucamonga
Rancho got another huge night from Yunior Garcia, and also got big nights from Nick Biddison and Yeiner Fernandez to outscore the Modesto Nuts, the Single-A affiliates of the Mariners, 12-8 at Loan Mart field Friday evening in front of 1955 fans.
Yunior Garcia went 5 for 5 last night for Rancho including 3 home runs, 6 RBIs, & had 15 total bases. Wow! This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise though as he is hitting .453 so far in August with an OPS of 1.293. Last night was his 7th multi-hit game of this month.
Yeiner Fernandez had a hit and 2 RBIs for the Quakes and is hitting .341 with an OPS of 1.081 so far in August. He has hits in 7 games in a row, and 13 of his last 14.
21-year-old out of Lake Travis in Austin, Jimmy Lewis, threw 2 scoreless innings last night, had a K, and gave up just 1 hit. Lewis was drafted in the 2nd Round of the Competitive Balance rounds in the 2019 draft out of the Austin area.
