Michael Busch had a huge night, Brandon Lewis continued to hit, Nick Nastrini had a great start, Great Lakes got washed and the 2022 class continued to shine. There was a lot of great action down on the farm last night and we’ve got it covered.
AAA OKC
I know it’s just the Minor Leagues and the focus is on development, but losing sucks, and OKC had won just five of its last 15 games, so when they opened up a can last night it felt really good. OKC beat El Paso, the AAA affiliates of the Padres, 13-8 Wednesday night at the Bricktown Ballpark in front of 3345 fans.
Justin Hagenmen was the opener for OKC and went 1.2 innings and gave up no runs on 1 hit and a strikeout. Hagenmen has an ERA of just 1.50 and a WHIP of just 0.83 and has allowed just 1 run this month in 7.2 innings.
Andre Jackson had a great outing giving up just 1 run in 4.1 innings. Jackson was 93-95 on the 4 Seam, 87-89 on the slider, and 84-85 on the change-up.
James Outman hit a base-clearing bases-loaded triple to give OKC a 5-1 lead. Outman is hitting .275 on the year with an OPS of .914.
Edwin Rios hit a 108.6 mph ground rule double and is hitting .267 with an OPS of .802 with OKC this year.
Here’s a good look at the Rehab performance from Tommy Kahnle. Kahnle threw seven 4 seam fastballs that were 94-96, 2 sinkers as high as 95, and a slider at 83.6.
Michael Busch had 4 hits last night including his 22nd double. He has 6 multi-hit games this month and has 4 or more hits in a game twice so far in August. He’s hitting .273 on the year with an OPS of .882 and he is tied for the most amount of home runs in the org. at 27.
Jacob Amaya had a 2 hit night and was on base 3 times. He is 6 for his last 18 with a double, a home run 5 runs scored, and 10 total bases during that stretch.
AA Tulsa Drillers
The Drillers got a great start from Nick Nastrini and big nights from Justin Yurchak and Brandon Lewis, but it wasn’t enough and they dropped a low scoring game to the Arkansas Travelers, the AA affiliates of the Mariners, 3-1 Wednesday night in Little Rock.
Nick Nastrini turned in a great performance and went scoreless thru 6 before he gave up a 2-run home run which was all he gave up on the night. He K’d 9 & walked just 1 in his 6.2 &, in his last 2 outings, he’s gone 6.2 innings both times & has 17 K’s to just 3 walks.
Justin Yurchak had a 2-hit night for the Drillers which is his 2nd multi-hit game in his last 3 & 5th of the month. He has at least 1 hit in all but 3 games in August and is hitting .295 as well with a slug% this month of .541. The dude is a great hitter.
Brandon Lewis has all 4 RBIs for the Drillers so far this week in their series with the Arkansas Travelers, and he had 2 more hits last night including his 14th double of the year. He has 2 multi-hit games in a row and has hits in 4 games in a row, 7 out of his last 8, and 11 of his last 13.
High A Great Lakes
The Loons did not get to play last night due to rain and will play a doubleheader today at 6:05 at Dow Diamond in Midland, Michigan.
Single A Rancho Cucamonga
Rancho scored 1 in both the 3rd and the 4th, but that was all the offense they could muster, and they dropped a tough one 4-2 to the Visalia Rawhide the Single A affiliates of the Diamondbacks. The video feed from Visalia was not working through the 5th inning so I do not have video highlights of Bubba Alleyne or Dalton Rushing but they both had huge nights. Alleyne had 2 hits and an RBI and Rushing had 3 hits, an RBI, and 6 total bases.
Here’s a good look at a 21-year-old RHP out of the Dominican Republic Martin Santana. Santana has one of the sharpest breaking balls in the org., as you’ll see in the video. He threw 1.1 innings last night and gave up 1 run.
WVU alum, Madison Jeffrey, threw well last night blanking the Rawhide in 1.2 innings of work and recording 2 strikeouts. Jeffrey has 47 strike outs in 36 innings this year so his stuff has a lot of swing an miss to it.
