James Outman had one of the greatest days in the history of baseball for OKC, Justin Yurchak and Andy Pages continued to stroke for the Drillers, Great Lakes went Bombs Away and Danny Duffy made his first rehab start with Rancho. There was a lot of great action last night down on the farm and we’ve got it covered.
AAA OKC Dodgers
It was an absolutely great night in Downtown OKC at the Bricktown Ballpark as almost 8000 fans were treated to a show that not many have ever gotten to see before. My wife and I had one of the best times we’ve ever had at an OKC game as James Outman had a performance for the ages and the Dodgers won on a 3-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th 7-4.
I was lucky enough to be at the OKC game last night and witness James Outman hit for the cycle with my own eyes! He also added in an extra triple to make it 5 hits for the evening. Here is every hit of his cycle! What an experience that was and one that I will never forget! I have had the chance to catch up with James about last night and this is what he had to say:
Yeah honestly it was just one of those games where I was getting good pitches to hit and being able to take advantage. I’m also lucky that my teammates were getting on base for me to make it harder on the pitchers.
Miguel Vargas had 2 hits, including his 32nd double of the year, his 2nd double in consecutive games, his 3rd one in the last 5 games, and his 6th one in his last 8 games. He also has a 12-game hit streak and is hitting .414 during that streak.
I’ve had a chance to see Bobby Miller many times now, & 1 thing I’d like to note is that he is one competitive dude! He HATES giving up hits! As in.., it royally chaps his Ass! Last night was his 2nd longest outing of the year, & he K’d 7 in 7 innings & gave up 2 on 5 hits.
Here is every pitch of Victor Gonalez’s scoreless inning of work for OKC. Gonzalez threw 14 sinkers that ranged from 91-95 and 2 changeups that were 85-86. Gonzalez has yet to give up a run in his 4 outings and 4 innings with OKC. He has 4 strikeouts to just 1 walk.
AA Tulsa Drillers
Tulsa got big nights from Justin Yurchak and Andy Pages but it wasn’t enough as they dropped a 10-4 decision to the Arkansas Travelers the AA affiliates of the Mariners.
Andy Pages had a 2-hit night for the Drillers including his 23rd home run that was hit 381 very happy feet and came off the bat at 31 degrees. Pages has 6 multi-hit games this month and 6 homers as well in August and his Slugging % this month is .542. He can do Damage!
Justin Yurchak is a great hitter. He hit .365 last year, and this year he has his average up to .280 after hitting just.207 in May and .213 in June. He hit .381 in July and is hitting .333 so far in August and has 3 multi-hit games in a row and 7 in total for this month.
Jordan Leasure threw a scoreless inning for the Drillers which is his 33rd scoreless performance out of 42 outings on the year. The UT, University of Tampa, Alum has been Mr. Reliable for the Drillers, and also dominant for long stretches of 2022.
High A Great Lakes
It was bombs away for the Loons Friday evening as their first 4 hits were all home runs as Great Lakes took down the Fort Wayne Tin Caps, the High A Affiliates of the Padres, 5-2 in front of 3502 very entertained fans at Dow Diamond.
Emmet Sheehan turned in his longest outing of the year in terms of pitches thrown, & went 4, gave up 2, & had 8 Ks. His ERA in July was 1.31 & his WHIP was 1.02. His ERA this month is 1.00 & his WHIP is 0.84, & since the beginning of July, he has 71 Ks in 45.2 innings.
Lefty Jeff Belge turned in another scoreless outing for the Loons which marks his 4th in a row, and in the last 2 months, he has 31 Ks in 16 innings to just 6 walks. I’d say a 5 to 1 K to BB ratio is pretty good!
Damon Keith got the first hit for Great Lakes last night and he did it with style with a 400-foot bomb, his 17th, that left the stadium. In his last 10 games he is 11 for 26 (.423) with 4 home runs, 3 doubles, a triple, 10 RBIs, 10 Runs Scored, and 28 total bases. Wow!
Luis Diaz hit the first pitch of the 6th inning 362 very happy feet for his 16th home run of the year. Diaz has 4 home runs so far in August and is 6 for his last 18 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, 5 RBIs, 7 runs scored, and 14 total bases. He is explosive!
Aldry Acosta threw another scoreless inning last night for the Loons, which means he hasn’t given up a run in his last 11 outings spanning 13.2 innings. His ERA for the year is 0.87 and his WHIP is 1.11. Great work from the 6’4 Venezuelan!
Ismael Alcantara has home runs in back-to-back games and is 5 for his last 8 with 2 home runs, a triple, 5 RBIs, 4 runs scored, and 13 total bases. Alcantara has big talent and is showing it in August.
Jose Ramos got the 4th hit of the night & also hit the 4th home run for Great Lakes. It was home run #25 for the talented young outfielder from Panama, and he has a 4-game hit streak where he is 6 for his last 13 with 3 home runs, a double, 6 RBIs, and 13 total bases.
Ben Harris finished the game last night for the Loons with yet another scoreless inning which was his 14th scoreless outing in a row. He has given up just 1 run since the beginning of July & has 30 Ks in those 20 innings. He has the highest strikeout rate in the minors.
Single A Rancho Cucamonga
Danny Duffy started things off on the right foot and Yeiner Fernandez had another big day for the Quakes as they handled the Visalia Rawhide, the Single-A Affiliates of the Diamondbacks, 5-1 Friday Evening.
Here is every pitch of the scoreless rehab performance last night at Rancho for 33-year-old Danny Duffy. Duffy got off the IL on August 20 and had 2 outings with the ACL Dodgers before being assigned to Rancho on Thursday and throwing for them last night.
Yeiner Fernandez had 3 more hits last night for the Quakes & has hits in 12 of his last 13 games & in all but 2 games this month. He’s hitting .339 so far in August with an OPS Of 1.017. His average for the year is all the way up to .297 and his OPS for the year is .833.
Griffin Lockwood Powell had 2 hits for the Quakes and has his on-base % up to .452 on the year and his OPS up to 1.005 for 2022 to pair with an average of .250. Lockwood Powell is a 24-year-old that was drafted out of Central Michigan.
Here’s a good look at LHP, Justin Wrobleski. Wrobo was drafted out of OSU, so I got to see him quite a bit until he had to shut down his 2021 season. This kid has great stuff with all the measurables and, struck out 50 in the 40 innings he threw in 2021.
Here’s a look at 24-year-old out of Troy Orlando Ortiz-Mayr who went 4 innings last night and gave up just 1 run and had 8 strikeouts. Good movement on the fastball, tight slider for a strike pitch, then the big breaker for the swing and miss.
Here’s a good look at Jacob Meador, 2022 draft pick out of Dallas Baptist, originally from Burleson, Tx. which is just south of Fort Worth. Meador finished out the 9th last night for the Quakes in his first outing with Rancho.
