Bombs Away at Bricktown, Tulsa Troubles, Loons Scored early, pitched late and Rancho opened up another can. There was a lot of great action Down of the Farm yesterday and we’ve got it covered.
AAA OKC Dodgers
It was bombs away at the Bricktown Ballpark in downtown OKC as the Dodgers hit 6 home runs and scored 13 runs on a wet and rainy Sunday evening in the Sooner State.
James Outman was at it again! He hit home run #24 on the year and it came off the bat at 106.6 and traveled 449 very happy feet. Outman is 8 for his last 11 and 11 for his last 19 with 2 home runs, 3 triples, 5 doubles, 5 runs scored, 14 RBIs, and 28 total bases. Good Grief!
Jon Duplantier had a good start for OKC going 4 innings and giving up just 1 run and striking out 4. Duplantier was 92-94 on the 4 seam, 80 on the knuckle curve, 81 on the slider, and 86 on the changeup. That’s a pretty good mix.
When Edwin Rios gets ahold of one, it stays hit. He hit home run #4 since joining OKC and it came off the bat 107.4 and traveled 407 very happy feet. Rios is hitting .283 with an OPS of .778.
Jason Martin hit home run #28 which is the most of any Minor Leaguer in the Dodgers system and only 2nd behind Mookie Betts who has 31. It came off the bat 102.2 and traveled 421 very happy feet. He’s hitting .287 with an OPS of .946 on the year.
Jacob Amaya hit home run #13 of the year and it was hit 106.5 and traveled 417 very happy feet. That goes to show just how strong Amaya is and how much power he has as a gap-to-gap hitter.
Miguel Vargas hit home run #17 and it was hit 106.8 and traveled 419 very happy feet. Vargas has home runs in consecutive games and is hitting .301 on the year with an OPS of .901.
Devin Mann hit his first home run in AAA and his 11th overall on the year and it was hit 90.5 and traveled 337 very happy feet. Mann has a world of power to tap into and is having a good year hitting .261 with an OPS of .832.
Marshall Kasowski threw another scoreless outing tonight for OKC. Kasowski’s last outing when he gave up 5 was very much an outlier as he hadn’t given up more than 1 run in an outing since April 21st. He has 27 scoreless performances this year in 35 outings.
Hansel Robles threw a scoreless inning for OKC as well. He threw 8 4 seam fastballs that were 96-98, and 7 sliders that were 86-89. His Velo is ticking up which should be very exciting for Dodgers fans.
Mark Washington threw a scoreless inning for OKC which is his 24th on the season out of 33 outings. Washington threw 14 4-seam fastballs that sat 92-94, 3 cutters at 87, 2 sliders at 85, and 3 really durty changeups at 85.
AA Tulsa Drillers
The Drillers gave up 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning and couldn’t recover and dropped a 7-2 decision to the Arkansas Travelers, the AA affiliates of the Mariners. Tulsa has lost 3 games in a row, 8 of their last 9, and 10 of their last 12.
It’s been a heckuva week for the Lockhart family as younger brother Kyle committed to play for OU, and Lael Jr. just turned in a really good performance for Tulsa going 4 innings and giving up just 1 run on 2 hits. Lockhart also had 2 K’s and has 17 k’s this month in 16 innings.
Ryan Ward drove in the first run for Tulsa with his 14th double of the year and his 70th RBI. Ward pairs that with 27 home runs, an average of .258, and an OPS of .819. He is a great offensive player.
Justin Yurchak hit his 19th double of the season which is a career best for a single season for him. His average is up to .280 on the year & he is 50/142 since the beginning of July which equates to .352. During that time he has 12 doubles, 4 home runs, and 22 RBIs.
High A Great Lakes
Great Lakes scored 2 in the first and one each in the 2nd and 3rd innings and that was all they needed to take down the Fort Wayne Tin Caps, the High A affiliates of the Padres, 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Dow Diamond in front of 3342 fans.
Ronan Kopp made his High A Debut for the Loons today. He gave up a run in his 1.1 innings, but he struck out 2 of the 4 outs he recorded and hit 96 with the fastball and 84 with the changeup. Kopp is a 20-year-old 2021 draft pick out of South Mountain Community College.
Jorbit Vivas hit his 10th home run of the year and it came off the bat at 101 mph and was hit 405 very happy feet. Vivas is hitting .297 this month with an OPS of .845.
Ismael Alcantara hit home run #8 & it was hit 106 & traveled 414 very happy feet. Alcantara has been smokin’ hot as today is his 3rd multi-hit game in his last 5 and he is 7 for his last 13 with 3 home runs, 7 RBIs, a triple, & 5 runs scored during that span.
Great work from Robbie Peto out of the bullpen yesterday for the Loons. Peto went 4 innings and gave up just 1 run, and, like he always does, missed a bunch of barrels. Peto had been rock solid and very consistent all year for the Loons.
Great work from Jeff Belge again for the Loons. Belge struck out 2 of the 3 outs he recorded and has 16 strikeouts in his last 18 outs. He has 19 K’s this month to just 2 walks and hasn’t given up a run in his last 5 outings. Wow! Belge was kind enough to provide a quote and this is what he had to say about his success this season.
The biggest thing for me this season has been to slow things down and just attack guys and trust my stuff. The key for me is to just stay in attack mode and challenge guys in the zone
Braydon Fisher was on point yesterday for the Loons going 1.2 innings and giving up no runs on just 1 hit. Fisher is great at the back end of games because he is at his best in the biggest moments.
Single A Rancho Cucamonga
Rancho had several huge offensive performances and exploded for 13 runs to beat the Visalia Rawhide 13-4 in the finale of this week’s 6-game series.
Visalia did not have a center field camera last night, so there were no video highlights of the Quakes pitching, but there were highlights nonetheless. Darlin Pinales made his first start in Single-A and it was good. He went 3 scoreless innings and K’d 3. I’m looking forward to seeing him in his next start. Joel Ibarra threw 2 scoreless innings as well and had a couple strikeouts, and Carlos DeLos Santos finished the 9th by blanking the Rawhide in his 1 innings while recording 2 Ks.
Dalton Rushing had another monster game for the Quakes. He went 5 for 6 with 3 RBIs and is hitting .485 so far this month, and his slug % is .882. That’s not his OPS, that’s just his slug! His OPS in August is 1.468. Wow!
Luis Rodriguez had a big game for the Quakes going 3 for 6 with an RBI and hitting his 19th double. Visalia will be glad to see him leave town as during this past week’s series Rodriguez went 11 for 28 (.392) and had 4 doubles, 8 RBIs, 6 runs scored, and 15 total bases.
2022 Draft Pick, Nick Biddison had 3 hits for the Quakes including his 4th double and 2 RBIs. Biddison is hitting .272 so far with the Quakes with an OPS of .812 and is 7 for his last 14 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs, 4 runs scored, and 7 total bases during that stretch.
Griffin Lockwood Powell hit his 6th home run last night and went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs and 5 total bases. Lockwood Powell has 3 multi-hit games in a row and is 6 for his last 13 with a home run, 4 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and 9 total bases.
