Jason Martin homered again, Gavin Stone shined, as usual, The Drillers dropped a tough one, the Loons got blanked and the Quakes went crazy. There was a lot of great action down on the farm last night and we’ve got it covered.
AAA OKC Dodgers
OKC scored 6 runs combined between the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings, but gave up 2 in the bottom of the 8th and dropped a hard fought 7-6 decision to the Round Rock Express the AAA affiliates of the Rangers.
Gavin Stone turned in another scoreless outing in what I am sure is a period of the year where he has an innings countdown of some sort. He went 3.1 innings, struck out 7, and gave up no runs. His ERA on the year is 1.50, his avg. against is .225 and his WHIP is 1.18.
Here’s a good look at the performance from Danny Duffy for OKC last night. He threw 9 4 seam fastballs that were 91-93, 3 changeups that were 85-86, and one curveball at 75.
Jacob Amaya hit home run #14 on the year and it was hit 102.3 off the bat and traveled 404 very happy feet. Amaya is 5 for his last 11 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, 4 RBIs, 5 runs scored, and 13 total bases. Keep up the great work Jacob!
Jason Martin hit home run #30 which leads the PCL and it came off the bat 100.8 and traveled 379 very happy feet. Martin leads OKC in home runs, total bases (235), OPS (.953), slug (.575), RBIs 102, and is 2nd in triples (5), runs scored (91). Wow!
AA Tulsa Drillers
Tulsa scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game at 5-5, but then gave up a home run in the top of the 10th, then couldn’t score in the bottom of the inning, and lost to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the AA affiliates of the Royals, 6-5 Wednesday evening at beautiful OneOk field in downtown Tulsa in front of 3930 fans.
Carson Taylor had quite a game for AA Tulsa. Taylor had 2 hits, both right-handed, and threw out a runner trying to steal 3rd base. It’s been quite impressive watching the growth in this young man’s defensive game to pair with his offense that has always been top-notch.
Abiatal Avelino hit his 6th home run of 2022 and had 2 hits and 3 RBIs tonight for Tulsa.
High A Great Lakes
The Loons had one of those games last night, and could only muster 1 hit and no runs and lost to the Lake County Captains, the HIgh A affiliates of the Cleveland Guardians, 2-1 Wednesday night at Dow Diamond in front of 2632 fans.
The Loons may not have scored, but the pitching was good, and Carlos Duran gave Great Lakes a really good start going 5 innings and giving up just 1 run on 1 hit and he had 6 strikeouts. Duran has 25 strikeouts this month in just 16 innings.
Ryan Sublette threw a perfect inning for Great Lakes which is his 4th scoreless outing in a row. His ERA in August is 2.16, his average against is .143 and his WHIP this month is 1.20. Keep up the great work Ryan!
Aldry Acosta had another scoreless outing for the Loons which is his 13 scoreless outing in a row. He still has yet to give up a run since he came off the IL in mid-July.
Single A Rancho Cucamonga
Rancho pulled out a jumbo-sized can last night and went for 2 twice to beat Inland Empire, the Single-A affiliates of the Angels, 16-14 Wednesday night.
Jake Vogel had 4 hits and 4 RBIs last night for the Quakes. He now has multi-hit games in 3 of his last 4, a stretch where he is 8 for 20 with 2 doubles, 6 RBI, 6 Runs Scored, and 10 total bases.
2022 Draft Pick out of Virginia Tech, Nick Biddison, had 5 hits and 4 RBIs for the Quakes. Biddison is hitting .297 with an OPS of .877 since joining Rancho and is 8 for his last 16 with a triple, 3 doubles, 4 runs scored, and 13 total bases.
Griffin Lockwood Powell had another multi-hit game with 2 hits and 3 RBIs last night in the 16-14 win for the Quakes over Inland Empire. Lockwood Powell has 2 hits in 5 games in a row and is 10 for his last 21 with 2 home runs, 7 RBIs, 5 runs scored, and 16 total bases.
Rayne Doncon had 2 hits and a pair of RBIs for the Quakes. Doncon has a 4-game hit streak and has 2 home runs, 5 RBIs, 4 Runs scored, and 12 total bases.
Carlos De Los Santos was flashing 97 on his fastball last night and had the typical sharp slider to work through 1.1 innings of scoreless work. De Los Santos has gone scoreless in 5 of his last 6 outings and has 18 K’s this month in just 12.2 innings.
