Jason Martin continued to make history, OKC took out some frustration, the Loons turn to the playoffs and the Quakes said goodbye to 2022. There was a lot of great action on the farm yesterday, and we’ve got it covered.
AAA OKC Dodgers
OKC pounded out 18 hits and 20 runs in a Sunday afternoon beatdown of the Tacoma Rainiers, the AAA affiliates of the Seattle Mariners, 20-5 at the Beautiful Bricktown Ballpark in front of 7088 fans.
Jacob Amaya hit his 2nd Grand Slam w/ OKC & 15th home run of 2022. It was hit 102.1 & traveled 411 very happy feet! Amaya also hit his 18th double, had 3 hits on the day, has hits in 12 of his last 13, & is hitting .419 in September with an OPS of 1.117.
Jason Martin had 2 hits & his PCL-leading 31st home run. He also leads the PCL in RBIs with 105. His 105 RBIs is the most any OKC has had since the Bricktown Ballpark was opened in ’98, & he is the only player during that time to hit 30 home runs & have 100 or more RBIs.
Edwin Rios had 2 hits today for OKC including his 6th home run in AAA that was hit 107.2 and traveled, well, I don’t know have far it traveled, but I’m guessing in the 405 range to match the area code of OKC.
James Outman had 2 hits including home run #26 of the year. He has 2 multi-hit games in a row & is hitting .294 with an OPS of .972. It would be hard to do much better than he’s done this year as an overall contribution to a team! His overall game in 2022 has been elite!
Tony Wolters had 3 hits yesterday including his 8th double. Wolters is having a great month as he is hitting .313 so far in September and has hits in all but 1 game so far.
Devin Mann had 3 hits for OKC including his 3rd triple and 13th home run that was hit 105.2 and traveled 375 very happy feet. Mann is having a very good year hitting .261 with an OPS of .835.
Victor Gonzalez threw a scoreless inning in what might be his last outing in OKC. He comes off the IL this week and the Dodgers will have to either activate him to L.A. or option him to OKC. Stay Tuned!
Nick Robertson threw his 3rd straight scoreless outing for OKC. He was 91-93 on the 4-seam, 83-84 on the slider, and 84-85 on the change. Atta Boy Nick, keep up the great work!
AA Tulsa Drillers
Tulsa took an early 3-0 lead and it was all downhill from there as Frisco scored 18 unanswered runs to beat the Drillers 18-3.
Although the scoreboard got sideways on the Drillers Leonel Valera continued to be a bright spot and continued his remarkable series at Frisco with 2 more hits, & home run #18. He has home runs on back-to-back days & has homered in 3 of his last 4 games, & is 9 for 20 with 3 home runs, a double, 13 RBIs, 6 runs scored, & 19 total bases in his last 4 games.
Andy Pages had another 2-hit game and has 8 hits, a home run, 4 doubles, and 7 RBIs in his last 4 games. He is having his best month of the year so far in September!
High A Great Lakes
The Loons got rained out on Sunday and that was the season finale, so they now turn their focus to the playoffs that begin on Thursday. I was able to catch up their the Loons manager Austin Chubb and ask him about the season and the upcoming playoffs, and here’s what he had to say.
Single A Rancho Cucamonga
Rancho finished their season on Sunday by dropping the last game of their year 5-2 to Lake Elsinore.
Taylor Young went 3 for 3 on the day and hit his first professional triple. Young hit .292 with the Quakes since joining after the draft and had an on-base % of .454. Can’t wait to watch his first full season in the organization next year.
Kyle Froemke hit home run #3 as a Quake! He has hits in 8 of his last 9 games and has 15 total bases and 6 runs scored in the 8 games played this month.
