Dodgers Daily: 9-26-22

Vargas Maiden Bon Voyage, Freeman is the best hitter in the game, Rookies rock it out for the Dodgers. There was a lot of great action this weekend and we’ve got it covered.

LA Dodgers

Miguel Vargas hit his first major league home run on Saturday night, then Michael Grove and Andre Jackson put on a show yesterday while veterans Freddie Freeman and Will Smith took care of the offense en route to a series win over the weekend for the boys in blue over the St. Louis Cardinals

Watch Grove in Action

Michael Grove is getting comfortable, and as a sign of getting more comfortable, incorporated his slider much more yesterday. He was 93-95 on his 4-seam, 85 on his slider, and 79-80 on his curveball. He gave up 1 on 3 hits and had 3 Ks to just 1 walk.

Watch Freeman in action

Freddie Freeman got his league-leading 191st hit on his league-leading 46th double to get the scoring started for LA. Freeman also leads the league in Avg. (328) and is hitting .375 in his last 15 games with an OPS of 1.085. This dude is special!

Watch Smith get 2 hits

Will Smith has been smokin’ hot at the plate for the last 2 weeks. He had 2 hits and an RBI for LA yesterday and is hitting .417 in his last 7 games with an OPS of 1.148, and in his last 15 games, he’s hitting .304 with an OPS of .889.

Watch Jackson in Action

If you’re not a believer in Andre Jackson’s changeup and the potential he has then watch the video. HIs changeup was downright elite yesterday en route to an easy inning. I’m pretty excited about where he is at right now with his stuff!

Watch Vargas hit his 1st Major League home run

I know Tim Rogers of Dodgers Nation and Dodgers 2080 was smiling from ear to ear when Miguel Vargas hit the 1st home run of his MLB career. Tim has been telling us all how good this young man is for quite a while and everyone has gotten to see it as of late. Vargas was the Dodgers Minor league player of the year in 2021 and backed that up this year by hitting .304 with an OPS of .915. He has a great hit tool!

AAA OKC Dodgers

The OKC Dodgers got big days from about half of its lineup, one being recently activated Kevin Pillar, and just destroyed the El Paso Chihuahuas 16-3 Sunday afternoon.

Watch Pepiot in Action

Ryan Pepiot made quick work of his 1 inning-opening role for OKC giving up no runs and striking out 2 of the 3 hitters he faced. Pepiot has an ERA of just 2.56 on the year, a WHIP of just 1.07, and avg. against of just .193 and a strikeout to walk ratio of 3 to 1.

Drew Avans hit home run #7 for OKC and had 3 hits and 4 RBIs in their beatdown of El Paso, the AAA affiliates of the Padres. Avans is hitting .282 with an OPS Of .897 and leads the team in stolen bases with 37. Helluva player!

Watch Outman hit home run #30

James Outman hit home run #30 of the year and is hitting .288 with an OPS of .963 on the year. Outman has 3 home runs in his last 6 games!

Watch Pillar hit home run #10

Kevin Pillar had 3 hits including home run #10 for OKC. Pillar is in his 3rd game off of the IL and trying to get enough at-bats to see if he could provide depth for the Dodgers in the playoffs.

Watch Rios hit 2 doubles

Edwin Rios had 2 doubles for OKC to extend his hit streak to 6 games. He has hits in 11 of his last 13 and is 18 for his last 56 (.321) with 4 home runs, 6 doubles, 15 RBIs, and 12 runs scored during that period.

Watch Noda hit home run #25

Ryan Noda hit home run #25 of the year & is approaching 100 RBIs w/ 94. He’s hitting .265 on the year with an OPS of .877 & has walked 89 times in 456 at-bats. His offense is exactly the type of offense the Dodgers love, he walks, hit home runs, & drives in runs.
