The Freeway Series began last night and there was a lot of great action. Clayton Kershaw was very efficient, Max Muncy and Chris Taylor went back to back, Miguel Rojas had a Web Gem, and the Dodgers beat the cross-town Angels 3-0.
Dustin May got touched a touch in his last outing, giving up 3 ERs, but the takeaway, IMO, is he went 5.2 innings. The more innings he gets, the better he’ll “feel” his “stuff” again & command will get better. His ERA is 2.95, his WHIP is, 1.15 and he has 20 Ks in 18.1 innings, so, all in all, he’s had a successful Spring Training.
Michael Busch had a Home Run & a double on Saturday and is 7 for his last 14 w/ 2 HRs, 2 doubles 4 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and 15 total bases. The Dude is a stat stuffer, and, I’ve said it many times at this point, but, all he needs is PT & he’ll prove he’s one of the best hitters in the org.
Andre Jackson has had a fantastic Spring Training posting a 1.80 ERA, a WHIP of just 1.10, an average against of just .237, and 12 Ks & just 2 walks. Andre has put himself in a position to be a major factor this year, and I’m super pumped about it.
Steven Duggar had 2 singles Saturday and they were both on right-handed breaking balls. Duggar has had a good look playing in 19 games and getting 36 at-bats. He has hits in 2 of his last 3 games and is 3 for his last 8. Saturday was his 3rd multi-hit game of the Spring.
Click the Picture and you will get a good look at one of the Dodger’s fastest Prospects in the org. Jake Vogel. Vogel was drafted in the 3rd Round of the 2020 draft out of Huntington Beach HS and is 21 years old. This guy has some wheels.
Max Muncy is continuing to have a very good Spring Training. He’s hitting .300 and hit his 3rd Home Run Sunday Evening. He’s healthy, he’s motivated and he’s primed to be very good this year.
Chris Taylor hit his 2nd Home Run of Spring Training Sunday Evening, and it was hit 110.7 MPH off the bat and traveled 409 very happy feet. Taylor is 4 for his last 16, so hopefully, he can get his offense going in time for the season to start.
Miguel Rojas had another Web Gem and continues to show his combination of great defense, leadership, and incredible intensity, and, IMO, it’s gonna be just what the Doctor ordered for this club, IMO.
Clayton Kershaw featured a 4-pitch mix Sunday evening and was sitting 90 with the 4-seam. Kershaw’s slider was big time as well and helped him go 6 scoreless innings in just 74 pitches. He struck out Mike Trout 3 times!
Yency Almonte did his usual thing Sunday Night by going scoreless in his 1 inning of work. Almonte was unbelievable last year, and, as Tim Neverett referenced, didn’t allow a run after July 4th.
The Bazooka, Brusdar Graterol, hit as high as 99 with the 4-seam Sunday Night, was 87-88 on the slider, and 97-98 on the sinker. Click on his picture to watch every pitch of his outing.
Drew Avans did Drew Avans things Sunday Night and made a sweet catch in Center Field. This dude is a great player and, as I’ve said a couple of times, the more he gets to play on the main field, in this case, Dodgers Stadium, the more Dodgers fans will catch on.
James Outman went big fly again for the 3rd time this ST in Sunday’s game. Outman is hitting .295 with an OPS of .910 and has 10 RBIs. The Dodgers will be facing Zac Gallen in the first game who is a Right Handed Pitcher, so Outman will likely be the starting Center Fielder on opening day. He wasn’t brought up to sit on the bench, he’ll get a lot of Playing time while with L.A.
Shelby Miller threw his 4th scoreless outing in a row & 5th in his last 6th and has 9 Ks and 0 walks in ST. His split change, to pair with his 4-seam he locates to all zones is a really good combo. He’s looking like he has a real chance to make an impact IMO.
There was a very cool moment in the Sunday Nights game when 2022 Draft pick, Kyle Nevin, played 1st base for the Dodgers while his dad Phil managed for the Angels. Nevin was drafted out of Baylor and is another versatile, long, rangy, and athletic young prospect that can really hit.
