The Dodgers had an organization sweep last night, by my count, the 6th one of the season, and there was a lot of great action. So, let’s not waste any time, and let’s get right to it.
AAA OKC Dodgers
David Freitas extended his hit streak to 12 games & improved his average to .316 OPS .879. At 34, there will be a day that he has to hang it up, but that’s in the distant future & someone is going to have to rip the jersey off his chest for it to happen.
Hunter Feduccia had another great night going 2 for 4 with an RBI & is hitting .309 OPS .930 on the year. Feddy has hits in 6 of his last 7, has 5 multi hit games in his last 7 & is 13 for his last 27 with 2 HRs, 3 doubles & 7 runs scored. Keep grindin’ Feddy!
Steven Duggar had 3 hits for AAA OKC, including his 6th Double of 2023. Duggar has fought injury & just played 2 games in June & has played 2 games so far in July. But, he’s 3 for 8 since returning with a double & an HR. Well done Steven, keep fightin!
Michael Busch had 2 more hits last night for AAA OKC. That is all!
Ryan Ward turned in his 2nd multi hit in his last 4 games played & is 6 for his last 14 with 2 HRs, 6 runs scored & 14 total bases. He’s hitting .368 so far in July, OPS 1.205. Keep Rakin’ Wardo!
John Rooney traveled the Turner Turnpike from Tulsa to OKC, parked, put on his uniform & went directly to the mound. I kid, I kid, kinda! Rooney picked up in OKC last night where he left in in Tulsa, Kickin’ Ass going 2 scoreless and lowering his ERA to 2.25.
Drew Avans pitched & although it was out of necessity, he’s not your typical position player pitching in a blowout. It was a 1 run game & he featured 4 pitches, including a 90 MPH FB. Avans was a very successful pitcher in college at Southeastern Louisiana posting a 3.56 ERA.
Mad props to Keegan Curtis who opened for AAA OKC going 2 scoreless. Curtis was 93.6 on his 4 Seam and had and average exit velo on that pitch of just 79.8. Avg. exit velos on his slider/cutter were in the low 80’s as well, so lots of weak contact.
AA Tulsa Drillers
Austin Gauthier went yard, and, guess what, it was oppo. The village of folks that taught this kid to stay inside the ball & use the big parts of the field know what they are doing ’cause he’s awesome at going oppo without sacrificing power. He’s hitting .330, OPS .992.
Diego Cartaya hit double #7. Watch his attack angle in slo-mo in the video below & notice that he’s not lifting. If he keeps swingin’ like this, watch out! Actually, he’s been swingin’ like this for a minute hitting .300 so far in July, OPS 1.064.
Standing ovation of the day went to Orlando Ortiz-Mayr. Ortiz was making his AA debut & went 6 innings scoreless, had 3 Ks, just 1 walk & lowered his ERA to 3.20! Well done Orlando, the club needed you & you stepped up big time!
Austin Gauthier had an Oppo HR & Aldry Acosta went scoreless in his 2 innings of action. In other news, it’s usually hot in July! Acosta has a 2.65 ERA, a WHIP of just 0.94 & has gone scoreless in 19 of his outings this year. He’s allowed more than 1 run just 3 times.
High A Great Lakes
Congrats to Justin Wrobleski for being named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Month after posting an ERA of 1.09, WHIP of 0.93 & an avg. against of just .195 for June. If you follow Dodgers Daily, this should not come as a surprise!
Max Hewitt had 3 hits for Great Lakes & has hits in 3 of his last 4 & 4 of his last 6. It’s rewarding to watch all of the hard work & dedication he has put into this game get rewarded because no one is less entitled or mentally tougher than Max Hewitt, trust me on that!
Chris Newell went yard for the 20th time in 2023. He has big power & equal speed as evidenced by his 13 stolen bases. Combine that with a .271 average and an OPS of .946 & it starts to paint the kind of tools this young man has & the impact he can make.
Yeiner Fernandez is another one of the Loons that is just gritty, tough, smart & equally as talented. It’s not a secret why they’ve been so good! He had 2 hits last night, has multi hit games in 3 in a row, is 7 for his last 14 & is hitting .364 in July. Dude can play!
Great outing for Jerming Rosario who went 5 innings, gave up just 1 & had 6 Ks to just 1 walk. When Rosario is on, he’s as tough to hit as anyone! He’s given up just 2 earned runs in his last 15.1 innings & has 21 Ks to just 3 walks in that span.
Good outing for Franklin De La Paz who put up a 0 in his 1 innings of action. De La Paz earned his 3rd hold of the season & 5th scoreless outing in his last 6.
Lucas Wepf got his first save in High A going 1 scoreless. Wepf is having a great year posting an ERA of 2.29 & a WHIP of just 0.96. Wepf has gone scoreless in 8 outings in a row & in 14 of his last 15, a stretch where he has 40 Ks & just 4 walks in 22.2 innings.
Single A Rancho Cucamonga
Congrats to Gabe Emmet for being the Pitcher of the Month in the Cal League. Emmet posted a 1.29 ERA in June, combined with a WHIP of just 0.86 and an average against of just .136.
Dayton Dooney had 2 hits, an RBI & 3 total bases. Dooney is from Honolulu, went Juco at Central Arizona, then was drafted in the 6th round of the 2021 draft by Kansas City. After being released in March, the Dodgers picked him up in April. He has hits in 3 of his last 4.
Josue DePaula had 2 hits for Rancho & is 5 for 7 to start this weeks series with Inland. He also has hits in 4 games in a row & 5 of his last 6. He’s hitting .444 this month so far, OPS 1.111.
Joel Ibarra recorded his 5th W & lowered his ERA to 1.50. When he’s in the zone, he’s been virtually unhittable, as he’s given up just 7 hits in 36 innings & has 44 Ks in 36 innings. His WHIP is just 1.00 & he’s gone scoreless in 5 in a row, 7 of 8 & 11 of 13.
Kelvin Ramirez threw the last 2 innings scoreless, struck out 4 & recorded his 1st save. His FB was in the 96 range, and last night was his 4th scoreless outing in a row.
