LA DH Today, Kopp Kills It, OKC Rakes, Tulsa Triumphs & More

The Dodgers were in the midst of playing very well when their game got suspended last night. Mookie Betts led off with a basehit, Freddie Freeman followed and Will Smith drove in the games 1st run with an RBI Sac fly.

Get ’em on, get ’em over, get ’em in! It’s hard to overstate the value of getting the lid off early in the game with great team baseball.

Once the Dodgers got the lid off they opened up a can with doubles from Max Muncy and Kike Hernandez to open up a 3-0 lead. 

Cleveland answered in the bottom of the 1st with a run, then after both teams went scoreless in the 2nd, the skies opened up and it was a wrap. 

The game was suspended and will resume today at 9:10 Pacific. The Dodgers will get an extra roster spot which will be Ryan Pepiot, who will likely start the 2nd game. The remainder of the 1st game is expected to be a bullpen game. 

AAA OKC

OKC pounded out 13 hits and 7 runs last night, but couldn’t hold on and lost to the Albuquerque Isotopes, the AAA affiliates of the Rockies, 8-7. OKC dropped to 75-45, so it has been a very successful season.

Yonny Hernandez had 2 hits for AAA OKC & was on base 4 times. Hernandez was playing SS for the 2nd night in a row, and also for the 2nd night in a row had a multi hit game.

Pat Valaika had 2 hits for OKC, including HR #6. Valaika has hits in 4 of his last 5 games.

Ryan Ward had 2 hits & gave OKC the lead with a 2 out RBI base hit in the 8th. Ward has hits in 3 of his last 4 games.

Hunter Feduccia had 2 hits for AAA OKC and an RBI. Feduccia is hitting .291, OPS .866 & has been remarkably consistent on top of being very good all year. He has hits in 3 games in a row & 6 of his last 7. Time to finish strong Feddy, like you always do!

Justin Yurchak is quietly putting together another solid season & an exceptional month of August. He’s hitting .262, OPS .768, but he’s hitting .343 so far this month, OPS .938.

AA Tulsa

The AA Tulsa Drillers hit quite the rough patch with all of the movement in the system, but have rebounded and are playing good baseball as of late. At one point their record dropped to .500, but, with a flurry of wins they are back to 60-56. 

Last night they pounded out 9 runs on 9 hits and beat the NW Arkansas Travelers, the AA affiliates of the Royals, 9-6.

Diego Cartaya went big fly for the 2nd night in a row & the 3rd time in his last 6 games. He has 17 on the year & has hits in 3 games in row & 5 of his last 6. He’s easily having the best month of his season to this point, which is a testament to his durability.

Josh Stowers had a double & HR #7 & had 4 RBIs for AA Tulsa. He has 7 RBIs in his last 3 games, has HRs in 3 games in a row & has 14 total bases in his last 3 games.

Yusniel Diaz went 3 for 3 for AA Tulsa & was on base 5 times. He is hitting .403 so far in August, has 3 multi hit games in his last 4 & is 8 for his last 19.

Ryan Sublette went scoreless in his 1 inning for AA Tulsa & continues to be one of the hardest pitchers to barrel in the game. Avg. against by month April .077, May .121, June .231, August .125 When he’s pitching well, the other team doesn’t score, it’s that simple.

High A Great Lakes

The Loons were only able to scratch 3 runs on the night and lost to the Fort Wayne TinCaps, the High A Affiliates of the Padres 6-3. Great Lakes is having a tremendous season, however, and is 68-47.

Ya’ see somethin’ new every day at the yard & this one is new to me. Taylor Young was going back into 1st, the ball hit him & ricocheted into dead ball territory. He was awarded 3rd, but, on his way to 3rd, didn’t touch 2nd. TinCaps appealed & he was called out. Wow!

Bubba Alleyne hit HR #7 on the year & had 2 hits on the night and scored twice for Great Lakes. Alleyne has multi hit games in 2 of his last 3 & 3 of his last 6 & has an HR in every multi hit game in that stretch.

Carlos De Los Santos has a big arm & is refining his mix & command. He was hitting 96 tonight en route 1.1 scoreless tonight & he struck out 2, walked 0 & gave up no hits. He’s gone scoreless in 3 in a row.

Mitchell Tyranski threw a scoreless inning for Great Lakes & gave up no hits & had a K. Tyranski lowered his ERA to 3.86 & has gone scoreless in 5 of his last 6 outings.

Ronan Kopp has the highest K/9 ratio in the Midwest League, stat per Loons pxp, Brad Tunney.

98 Ks, 65.1 innings. Tonight was Kopp’s 4th outing out of the bullpen in a row & it has allowed him to max his fastball that was touching 97. He went scoreless for the 4th outing in a row.

Single A Rancho Cucamonga

Rancho scored 6 runs on 8 hits and beat the Lake Elsinore Storm 6-4 to move to 62-54 on the season. Josue De Paula, Thayron Liranzo, Jake Gelof, Sam Mongelli, Jose Izarra and Jordan Thompson all had hits, and Luis Rodriguez had two, including his 13th double of the season. 

The Quakes used 5 pitchers, highlighted by Jared Karros, who started, and went 6 innings scoreless. Beyond not giving up a run, Karros had 4 Ks, no walks and gave up just 3 hits. 

Joel Ibarra finished the game going scoreless in the 9th to secure the victory.
