Gus Bus is Rollin’, Pep in the Step, Kopp Clutch, Busch Homers & More

The LA Dodgers played a double header yesterday and it was a very successful couple of games. After losing the first game of the series, the Dodgers were faced with the possibility of losing back to back games for the first time since July 27th and July 28th.

The Dodgers set the tone right off the bat in the  1st game with tremendous team baseball. Mookie Betts singled, Freddie Freeman followed that with a single of his own that moved Betts to 3rd base before Will Smith knocked him in with a sac fly.

Get ’em on, get ’em over, get ’em in! It’s hard to overstate the value of getting the lid off early in the game with great team baseball.

Turns out those 3 runs were the only runs the Dodgers would need as Victor Gonzalez, Gus Varland, Ryan Brasier, Alex Vesia, Brusdar Graterol and Bryan combined to shut the Guardians out for the rest of the game.

In game 2 Caleb Ferguson got the start and was good in his inning. After giving up a couple of early runs, Ryan Yarbrough settled in and pitched nicely before Ryan Pepiot was brought in and was dominant.

Landon Knack worked out of a 2nd & 3rd no outs jam, and displayed a ton of high level skill in doing so. He threw a couple FBs, a big slider, a couple smaller sliders, a curve, change, struck out 2, weak ground ball, 0 runs. Bigtime! ERA just 2.56, WHIP 1.14, Avg. Against .227, 97 Ks, 29 BBs.

One thing you know you’re always gonna get when Keegan Curtis pitches is a ton of really “badass” sliders. He once threw 7 in a row, so he ain’t scare(t) to throw his best pitch as much as he needs. He went scoreless tonight, struck out 3, walked just 1, 2 hits.

Click to watch Rooney in action

John Rooney threw a scoreless inning for AAA OKC, which is his 5th scoreless outing in his last 6. Look for this guys results to climb, because he’s been throwing the ball very well for quite a while. Sinker touched 95.8, not clear on cutter velo, but was good.

Bryson Brigman hit HR #3 & had 2 hits, which is his 2nd multi hit game in a row. He’s hitting .308 in August & has played anywhere from SS to LF. Very valuable player considering the versatility in his offensive game and the defensive positions he can play.

High A Great Lakes

The Loons was postponed. Will update as information becomes available in terms of the makeup date and time.

Single A Rancho Cucamonga

On Wednesday night it was Jared Karros turning in a great performance, and last night it was Chris Campos. The two of which are very good friends and worked out a lot together in the off season.

Campos went 4 innings scoreless and had 4 Ks, no walks. Jonathan Edwards has been pitching very well lately, but has had somewhat of a roller coaster of a season and struggled last night.

Livan Reinoso gave up just 1 run in 2.1 innings and Carlos Martinez finished the night by giving up a run in his 1 inning of work.

Offensively the Quakes had just 3 hits and could only muster 3 runs. The 6 hits were strung out by 6 different Quakes who each had a hit a piece. Jake Gelof and Joe Vetrano, 2 of the most recent draft picks each had a hit as a highlight to the evening.
