The AAA OKC Baseball Club got started last weekend and there was a lot of exciting action, highlighted by the Rehab outing of Walker Buehler.
Buehler gave up 3 runs in 3.1 innings, but that’s nothing to worry about. The Focus for guys on rehab is simply to get reps, stay healthy, and get all the “feels” back. Buehler threw 2 scoreless innings to begin his rehab outing, then ran into trouble in the 3rd, then the 4th. He gave up 3 Earned runs in 3.1 innings, but touched 95.2, and had a full arsenal. Main thing is,
Landon Knack gave AAA OKC a great outing on Friday! 5 IP 3 H 0 R 0 BB 6 Ks He used all 4 pitches, 4 Seam, Change, Slider, Curve, very effectively. He touched 93.8, which was effective considering he landed his curve 60%, slider 62%, so it all played well together. Plus it was chilly!
Gus Varland touched 96.4 and featured his typical big slider en route to a scoreless inning for OKC. Varland started the season on the roster in Korea & he’ll be back with L.A. at some point.
J.P. Feyereisen threw a scoreless inning on Friday. Hit 91.6 on the 4 Seam & slider had big movement. Another AAA reliever that is on the 40 man, and will be back up at some point, so keep your eyes on him.
Kevin Gowdy was very impressive in his outing Friday. Moved the ball left and right & did so with velo that was over powering swings. This dude has as much momentum as any prospect in the org. IMO.
Ricky Vanasco SAT 95.2 & paired his big fastball with his even bigger Curveball that had an 80% whiff rate. This dude was unhittable to end last season, then went scoreless in 3 innings in Spring Training, avg. against was .111. This dude is really, really good.
Drew Avans had 2 hits in each of the Friday and Saturday games, had 5 total bases in those games & added a walk. Helluva player, hope the Dodgers show him some love this year and give him a chance.
What a weekend for Andre Lipcius! Lipcius went 5 for 9 with a double, 2 Home Runs, 5 RBIs & 4 runs scored. The Dodgers picked up Lipcius from Detroit, after they had DFA’d him. The Dodgers signed him, put him on the 40 man, then DFA’d him again, now he’s in AAA.
It was good to see Miguel Vargas get some hits this weekend, including his 1st HR of the season. LF looks very natural to him.
