The LA Dodgers had a great night last night pounding out 16 hits and 9 runs en route to a 9-1 win. The Dodgers only hit 2 HRs to score the 9 runs, so the offense was balanced and spread out very well.Â
Mookie Betts continued his MVP pace with 2 hits, including home run #36. Betts has a higher WAR than Acuna, who he is competing with for NL POTY, so, in my, opinion, at this moment, he is the leader in the MVP race.Â
Will Smith had 2 hits including HR #17, which was great to see, because it’s been a bit of a tough week for the best catcher in baseball. He’s hitting just .207 in last 7, but has been better in the more distant past hitting .262 in last 15 games and .278 in last 30.
Chris Taylor had 3 Hits and was on base 4 times, and is hitting .316 in his last 7 games. He’s hitting .310 in last 15 games, and .264 in last 30, so he’s getting hot at right time.Â
The Bottom of the order was insanely productive last night. Spots 6-9 went 8 for 12, and if you back it up to spots 5-9, they were a combined 11-18 with 7 RBIs.
What a pro outing from Clayton Kershaw! Didn’t necessarily have his “A+” stuff, but grinded to 5 innings just 1 run on the Solo HR. These performances go to show just how great of a Hall of Famer Kershaw is & he needs to keep pitching like an Ace for this club.
The Gus Bus keeps rollin’. Gus Varland went scoreless again & worked around 2 hits & 2 walks. He showed the ability to make big pitches when needed & against good professional hitters, so stuff was big. He’s given up just 1 run since promoted in 5 outings, 7 innings.
Tyson Miller has been on the DFA train, but last night his destination was into the 0 column. 2 innings scoreless, 2 Ks, no walks. Will be interesting to see how creative the Dodgers get with that 26th spot on the 26 man. They like to shuffle fresh arms.

AAA OKC
The AAA Dodgers lost a high scoring, hard fought game to the Round Rock Express 10-9 on Tuesday to drop their record to 76-49.Â
Miguel Vargas had 2 hits, 2 RBIs and was on base 3 times. He was back home at 3rd base last night. His Avg. is .295 at the AAA level, OPS .880.
Jorbit Vivas had 3 hits for AAA OKC, which is his 2nd multi hit game in his last 3, and he’s 6 for his last 14. I’ve said it before, but I really think the addition of Kolten Wong is going to be of big benefit to him. Early ground ball work together, etc…
Jonny DeLuca had 2 hits for AAA OKC, including his 2nd triple. DeLuca was playing in just his 4th game back from the IL.
AA Tulsa
The Drillers lost a heartbreaker last night, giving up 5 in the top of the 10th inning to lose an extra inning thriller 10-6 to the Arkansas Travelers, the AA affiliates of the Seattle Mariners.Â
Imanol Vargas had 2 hits & was on base 4 times for AA Tulsa. Vargas is 5 for his last 8 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.
Great outing for Antonio Knowles who went 2 innings scoreless & had 2 Ks. Knowles avg. against this month is just .176 & he has 13 Ks in 12 innings. Time to finish on a heater!
Ben Harris threw 2.1 scoreless innings for Tulsa in what was, in essence, a bullpen game for the Drillers. Harris has gone scoreless in 6 of his last 7 outings & has lowered his ERA this month to 2.21, average against was .182 before his no hit performance last night.
HR #9 for Alex Freeland, who had 2 hits for Great Lakes, and 2 RBIs. He has back to back multi hit games and is 4 for his last 8 with 5 RBIs in his last 2 games. He has 5 multi hit games in his last 10 & is 13 for his last 34 (.382) in those 10 games.
One aspect of Damon Keith’s game that Loons PxP announcer, Brad Tunney, mentioned tonight is his speed. He is the 2nd fastest player on the Loons, and can flat run. Check out his triple!
Ronan Kopp in high leverage, late innings, is “Must See”. This dude ramps up the energy, he ramps up the stuff, and he’s racked up the 0’s. 6 relief appearances, 0 runs allowed, 10 Ks, 2 hits total given up. Well done Ronan, that was fun to watch!
Franklin De La Paz was terrific again in his 1 inning of relief striking out 2 & giving up no hits. De La Paz has gone scoreless in 4 outings in a row & 5 of his last 6 & has 9 Ks in 7 innings in that span.
Sauryn Lao threw 2 scoreless innings, 4 Ks. Lao is a converted infielder with a good arm, is very athletic, & has good movement on his ball. Lao lowered his ERA to 3.31, has gone scoreless in 4 of his last 5 outings & has given up just 3 ERs in his last 20.1 innings.
Single A Rancho Cucamonga
The stars came out to play for the Quakes as the 2023 #1 draft pick for the Dodgers, Kendall George, had 3 hits. Josue De Paula had 3 hits as well, and Thayron Liranzo, Joe Vetrano, Luis Rodriguez, Jose Izarra and Jordan Thompson all had two hits apiece.Â
In total, the Quakes pounded out 16 hits and scored 11 runs to take down the Stockton Ports 11-3.Â
Christian Romero got the start and gave up 3 runs in his 6 innings to pair with 5 Ks and no walks. Kelvin Ramirez followed him with 2 scoreless innings and Dailoui Abad finished things out with a scoreless inning of his own.Â
The Quakes are now 64-57 on the year.Â
