Ben Casparius continues to throw the ball as well as he ever has. 6 IP 3 H 1 R 3 Ks 2 BB 4S touched 96.8, averaged 94.4, spin averaged 2513, so he’s getting good velo & ELITE carry. Also featured his ++ slider, curve, cutter, change. This dude has a TON of momentum!
Drew Pomeranz had a good outing for AAA OKC. Cutter was effective, and he threw it 75% of the time & had 67% whiff rate. Paired that with a curveball with a ton of tumble. 858.1 MLB Innings, 3.91 ERA, so stay tuned on him.
The Sun came up, the sun went down, another day clicked off the calendar and Gator had another Multi hit game, both hits up the middle. In other news, water is wet.
High A Great Lakes
Another GREAT outing from Maddux Bruns! 4 IP 2 H 0 R 7 Ks 1 BB Left on left slider is Game, Set Match, changes eye levels with FB & has command of his BIG arsenal. ERA just 0.71 in his 4 outings (12.2 IP) & has 21 Ks, so almost 2 strike outs per inning.
Michael Martinez had a good relief outing for Great Lakes and got the W. Fastball is big, different shapes to secondaries play well off of it.
The All Time Home Runs leader at Virginia, Jake Gelof mashed on a couple of balls last night & had 2 hits & was on base 4 times. 8th multi hit game of the year & 13th extra base hit of 2024. Dude is a Mauler!
Thayron Liranzo had a hit Right Handed & a hit Left Handed. Sweet stroke that packs an incredible amount of power & potential. He’s hitting .289 so far in May as the weather has warmed up, has 2 multi hit games in his last 3 & is 5 for his last 12.
Chris Newell is heatin’ up! We know he has some of the most explosive skills of ANY prospect in the game & this month he’s added offensive consistency gathering hits in 3 games in a row & in 9 games overall for the month. Newell leads the MWL in HRs with 9.
Sam Mongelli is a really fun player to watch. Great athlete that can beat a defense in a myriad of ways, very versatile, but, then, also, very good at every role or position he plays. 2 multi hit games in his last 2!
Jose Rodriguez has THE highest Swinging Strike % in ALL of the Cal League of all qualified pitches. 26.1% of EVERY pitch he throws, not just his strikes, but EVERY pitch ends up in a swing & miss. 4S, 2S, slider, Change, Curve, can hit mid 90’s as a starter.
Jorge Gonzalez flashed a really nice slider last night en route to 2 scoreless innings. 2 IP 1 H 0 R 5 Ks 0 BB Gonzalez is a 21 Year Old out of the DR that signed in 2018, and made it stateside in 2022. Has gone scoreless in 7 of his 10 outings.
Wilman Diaz had 2 hits last night for Rancho. Diaz has a lot of offensive potential , has a short & quick swing & plays SS the most, but is the definition of versatile. He’s played 33 innings at 2B, 35 innings at 3B, 39 innings in LF & 9 innings in RF.
Josue DePaula hit his 1st HR & his 9th double last night for Rancho. DePaula is off to a bit of a slow start, but we’re only about 1/4 of the way through the year & his hit tool is too good, so no real takeaways from that. Good to see him gather hits & drive the ball.
