Dodgers Daily: Friday 8-26-22

OKC still has the Bricktown Blues, Buddy Reed went on a hitting Bonanza, the Loons had a Double Dip, and the Quakes broke out late. There was a lot of great action Down of the Farm last night and we’ve got it all covered.

AAA OKC Dodgers

OKC busted out to 2 quick runs in the Bottom of the first inning, but only scored 1 run the rest of the way and lost to the El Paso Chihuahuas 6-2 at Bricktown Ballpark in front of 4334 fans.

Watch Vargas give OKC the lead

Miguel Vargas got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with his 31st double of the season scored by Michael Busch. Vargas is almost back up to the .300 mark for the year and sits at .298 with an OPS of .889.

Watch martin drive in the 2nd run for OKC

Jason Martin followed the lead and drove in Vargas with his 20th double of the year to give OKC a quick 2-0 lead. Martin is tied for the lead in home runs throughout the organization at 27 and is hitting .287 as well, so he’s having a great year.

AA Tulsa Drillers

The Drillers scored 1 in the top of the ninth, then got a save from Nick Robertson, his 7th of the year, to beat the Arkansas Travelers, the AA affiliates of the Mariners, 4-3 in Little Rock Thursday Evening.

Watch Frasso Deal

Nick Frasso made his first start with the Drillers and it was brief but very good. He went 2.1 innings and gave up no hits and no runs, and struck out 3. Frasso has given up just 1 run in his 3 starts since being traded to the Dodgers and has racked up 9 strikeouts in his 5.2 innings.

Buddy Reed had a huge night for the Drillers collecting 3 hits, getting on base 4 times, and scoring 2 runs. With the big game last night, he has raised his average up to .326 on the year with an OPS of .923. All of his hard work in the back cages of the complex is paying off.

Watch Yurchak have another Multi-hit game

Justin Yurchak had another multi-hit game which is his 3rd in his last 4 games and 6th of this month. Since the beginning of July, his is 46/132 which equates to a .348 average, and his slugging % during that time is .530. As the weather has heated up, so has his bat. he is a great hitter.

Watch Lewis hit home run #19

Brandon Lewis hit home run #19 on the year and it was a bomb to dead center. It traveled 419 very happy feet and was his 6th in this month. In August, his slugging % is .566 as 12 of his 19 hits have been for extra bases.

High A Great Lakes

Great Lakes had a double dip Thursday evening at Dow Diamond and, as with roughly 80% of the Professional doubleheaders, they split with the Fort Wayne Tin Caps, the High A affiliates of the Padres. The Loons won the first game 9-4, then dropped the 2nd 3-0.

Diego Cartaya had 2 hits in the first game including his 12 double with Great Lakes and had 3 RBIs. Cartaya is hitting .277 on the year with an OPS approaching 1.000 at .949.

Watch Ramos get 2 hits

Jose Ramos had 2 hits for the Loons to mark his 4th multi-hit game in his last 6, a stretch where he is 9 for 24 (.375) with a home run, 4 doubles, 9 RBIs, 6 runs scored, and 15 total bases. His slugging % this month is .506.

Watch Alcantara go deep

Ismael Alcantara went 2 for 2 and had 3 RBIs and was on base 5 times. Alcantara has back-to-back multi-hit games since returning to the Loons and has a triple, a home run, 3 RBIs, and 9 total bases in his last 2 games.

Watch Leonard hit home run #14

Eddys Leonard hit his 14th home run of the year and extended his hit streak to 8 games and is 11/31 (.354) during that stretch with 3 home runs, 9 RBIs, 2 doubles, 10 runs scored, and 22 total bases. It’s been quite a stretch for the talented infielder from the DR.

Antonio Knowles had another scoreless outing for the Loons which is his 5th scoreless performance this month. Knowles is a Key West native that has one of the best sliders in the organization.

Watch Vivas get 2 hits

Jorbit Vivas was the highlight of the 2nd game, which didn’t have much offense. Vivas went had 2 hits which marked his 5th multi-hit game in his last 7 and 11th of the month.

6’6 Kendall Williams gave Great Lakes a quality start going 5 innings, striking out 5, and giving up just 1 run. Williams is one of the few pitchers in the system that features a split-finger pitch.

Watch Valdez in Action

Joan Valdez threw a scoreless 2 innings for Great Lakes in his 2nd performance since being promoted. Valdez is big at 6’4 and has the big fastball and sharp breaking ball paired with a change-up.

Single A Rancho Cucamonga

Rancho exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 10th inning to take down the Visalia Rawhide, the Single-A affiliates of the Diamondbacks, 6-2 Thursday evening.

Watch Alleyne get 2 hits

Bubba Alleyne led the way for the Quakes with 2 hits and 4 RBIs. Alleyne was drafted this year out of the University of Maryland and has multi-hit games in 3 of his last 4, a stretch where he is 7 for 21 with a home run, 3 doubles, 5 RBIs, and 13 total bases. Alleyne is one of the most exciting young prospects in the system.

Luis Rodriguez had 3 hits for Rancho which is his 2nd multi-hit game in his last 3 and makes him 5 for his last 14 (.357) with a double, 3 RBIs, 4 runs scored and 6 total bases.

Watch Bruns is Action

Maddux Bruns gave the Quakes a good start going 3, striking out 4, and giving up just 1 run. Bruns is a 2021 draft pick that has explosive stuff as evidenced by his 60 strikeouts in just 41.1 innings pitched. His curveball has the potential to be elite.

Sticking with the 2021 Draft class, RHP Gabe Emmett threw a scoreless 3 innings for the Quakes. Emmet is a 21-year-old out of Folsom Lake Community College with a unique delivery that gives hitters problems.

Jimmy Lewis turned in his 2nd scoreless performance in a row striking out 2 and his 2 innings of work. Lewis is a 2019 draft pick that was drafted out of High School from Lake Travis in the Austin area.

Kelvin Bautista threw a scoreless inning for the Quakes which his 5th scoreless outing in a row and 6th out of his last 7. During that stretch he has 9 K’s in 7 innings, so his stuff has some swing and miss to it.

Christian Suarez threw the last 2 innings for the Quakes and got the win. He had 3 strikeouts and gave up no runs.
