The showdown between the 2 best teams in baseball started last night, and, despite a great comeback and a gallant effort, the Dodgers came up short.

Lance Lynn struggles for the 2nd game in a row, and, as he put it, “It was a rough night. Lynn gave up just 4 runs in his first 4 outings for the Dodgers, but has given up 11 in his last 2. Click the video to watch him talk to the Press.

The MVP race was on display for the world to watch, and it didn’t disappoint. Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a grand slam early in the game, then, not to be outdone, Mookie Betts hit 2 home runs of his own. 

Click to watch Busch hit his 1st HR in Dodgers Stadium

Michael Busch went big fly for the Dodgers and fueled the comeback bid, that, ultimately fell short. Busch has been one of the best hitters in the Minor Leagues for multiple years, and is looking to get settled and comfortable at the MLB level to show what he can do. 

Tbe Giants lost last night as well, so the Dodgers didn’t lose any ground in the Division and still maintain their 13.5 game lead. Games 2-4 this weekend, so stay tuned and Go Dodgers!

AAA OKC

The Dodgers put up a 3 spot in the 7th inning last night to take the lead for good over the Round Rock Express, the AAA affiliates of the Rangers. OKC won 4-2 in front of 3553 fans at the beautiful Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

HR #20 for Ryan Ward to extend his hit streak to 9 games. Ward is 7 for his last 20 with with a double, a triple, 2 HRs and 9 RBIs in his last 5 games.

Bryan Hudson was the opener for AAA OKC & threw 2 scoreless innings, 1 K, no walks, 2 hits. Hudson’s ERA at the AAA level is just 2.64. His last 3 appearances have been with LA where he gave up 2 runs in 3 innings of work.

Kyle Hurt who was back in the piggyback role & went 3, gave up just 1, 3 Ks, 2 BBs, 4 hits. ERA 3.93, 139 Ks in 83.1 innings. FB touched 96.9, cutter 89.3, whiff rates 38 & 40%. This dude has electric stuff & when he’s able to repeat his delivery, is as good as anyone.

James Jones threw 2 scorless innings for AAA OKC and had 3 Ks, no walks & gave up just 1 hit. Jones ERA is 3.94. Sinker touched 96.7, slider, change 4-seam combo. Here’s a good look at his outing.

This clip is worth your time. Alex Freedman, OKC PxP, explains the failures of the ABS. It has increased BBs by 2x the number of Ks it has reduced, which means its not reaching its intended consequence, which is to get more balls in play. It’s having to be tweaked again.

AA Tulsa

The Drillers scored 2 in the bottom of the 8th on a big hit by Wladimir Chalo, more on him later, to bounce back and beat the Arkansas Travelers, the AA affiliates of the Mariners, 4-1

Kody Hoese hit HR #10, but it’s his 8th since the beginning of July. He has hits in 3 of his last 4 games & is hitting .255 with 9 HRs since the beginning of June. He’s having a good 2nd half for Tulsa.

HR #15 for one of the hottest hitters in the MiLB, Yusniel Diaz. Diaz has homers in back to back games & has hit .390, OPS 1.208 this month. What a month!

Excellent outing for Orlando Ortiz Mayr, who went 6 innings, just 1 run, 6 Ks, 1 walk, 3 hits. Hard to overstate how valuable it is this time of the year when your starting pitcher goes 6 innings, especially only giving up 1 run. ERA on the year 3.91. Well done Orlando!

This is the 1st time I’ve covered Carlo Reyes & it was good timing for a good outing. Reyes went 2 innings scoreless, had 2 Ks, 1 BB, no hits. Reyes is a 25 year old that has been with the org. since 2019.

Catcher Wladimir Chalo absolutely hosed a runner earlier this week, tonight he got a huge RBI base hit in the 8th. Chalo was promoted to Tulsa a little over a week ago, and is making an impact.

Braydon Fisher started on Tuesday & went 2, then closed tonight. He also drives the bus, mows the grass & anything else the Drillers need him to do. I like him best with the game on the line, because he’s money in those situations. 5th save tonight, ERA 3.27.

High A Great Lakes

The Loons could only muster one run on 4 hits Thursday evening and dropped a low scoring 2-1 decision to their heated rivals, the Dayton Dragons.

Another outstanding outing for Justin Wrobleski, who went 4 innings, just 1 run, 5 Ks, no walks, 5 hits. Wrobo was touching 98 & with his 6 pitch mix, no 2 pitches ever look alike. ERA 2.90 on the year. Super pumped for this dude as he continues to make it happen!

Gotta love TY, Taylor Young. He just stole his 53rd base, on his way to 60, and did it with a delayed steal. After stealing the base, he gave the universal delayed steal signal to his dugout. I’ve said it several times…You want this dude on YOUR team!

Alex Freeland had 2 hits for Great Lakes which is his 3rd multi hit game in his last 4 & 7th in his last 14 games. He’s 19 for his last 54 with with 4 doubles & 2 home runs in that span.

Carlos De Los Santos hit 99 tonight for Great Lakes & had 2 Ks in his scoreless inning for the Loons. De Los Santos has gone scoreless in 5 outings in a row and has 6 Ks in his last 4 innings.

Great Lakes PxP, Brad Tunney, confirmed 2 things tonight about Jack Dreyer. 1) He can solve a Rubiks Cube in 14 seconds, and, he is one of the best relievers in the Minor Leagues. Dreyer went scoreless again tonight in 2 innings of work to lower his ERA to 2.44.

Single A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes lost a very hard fought 6-5 game last night at Stockton to drop their record to 64-59 on the season.

Josue DePaula, Joe Vetrano, Jose Izarra each had single hit nights, while Jordan Thompson and Thayron Liranzo each had 2 hits a piece. Liranzo hit his 22nd home run, Wilman Diaz his his 7th and Jordan Thompson hit his 2nd double.

2023 draft pick, Patrick Copen, got the start last night and went 1.1 scoreless. He was followed by Livan Reinoso who went 2.2 scoreless, and Jonathan Edwards, whose roller coaster rides continued giving up 4 runs in 1 inning of work while issuing 4 walks.

Joel Ibarra and Brandon Neeck has scoreless outings, and Noah Ruen gave up 1 run in his 1.1 innings.
